aerial surveys for construction sites

At The Ruxton Group, we deliver dependable aerial mapping and drone surveys using cutting-edge drone technology, providing precise and efficient solutions tailored to meet your project’s specific needs.

We combine years of surveying expertise with advanced drone technology to deliver the most reliable and precise data for your projects.

What is an Aerial Surveys for Construction Sites?

Aerial Surveys involve utilising the long-standing surveying technique of photogrammetry to survey land that would be impossible or impractical to survey on the ground. With the development of drone capabilities, capturing high-resolution imagery at low altitude has meant photogrammetry can be applied to a range of applications and projects not previously feasible, including aerial surveys for construction sites.

Our Aerial Survey Process

Drone surveys offer precise data and detailed measurements, even for large-scale or hard-to-access sites. In many cases, they outperform traditional ground-based methods by providing accurate measurements of distance, depth, volume, and pitch in significantly less time.

At The Ruxton Group, we utilise advanced drone technology to deliver reliable aerial mapping and survey solutions, ensuring your project’s unique needs are met with precision, efficiency, and attention to detail. As part of our Aerial Survey services, we offer the following capabilities:

SURVEY & MAPPING
We utilise RTK-equipped drones paired with advanced LiDAR and visual sensors to deliver high-resolution aerial imaging and outputs, including 2D orthomosaic maps (orthomaps), Digital Surface Models (DSMs), Digital Terrain Models (DTMs), topographical surveys, and 3D point clouds. Each deliverable is meticulously customised to meet the unique requirements of our clients.

ASSET INSPECTION
We offer inspection services for a diverse range of assets, including residential property portfolios, large educational, retail, and office facilities, as well as towers, chimneys, boiler interiors, reinstated cable corridors, railway tunnels, bridges, and vent shafts.

Using a combination of aerial and ground-based imaging techniques, including aerial drone surveys for mapping and laser scanning when necessary, we create detailed 3D models. These models enable precise anomaly identification, classification, and reporting tailored to meet each client’s specific requirements.

AERIAL TOPOGRAPHIC SURVEYS
Using our Real Time Kinematic (RTK) drone and survey technology, we are able to carry out accurate surveys of large areas and provide our clients with a comprehensive set of data.

The surveys are achieved by combining low altitude photography with geometrically calibrated cameras and a technique called photogrammetry. Using these images we are able to create 3D digital elevation and terrain models as well as orthomosaics.

CAA Authorised Aerial Mapping

The Ruxton Group have CAA qualified pilots to fly its commercial UAV and have permission for commercial operation (PfCO) approved by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Operating to strict safety procedures and approved by the CAA, The Ruxton Group’s first priority is the safety of the public, staff and clients on all missions.

We proudly serve clients across London and the UK. Our expertise covers a wide range of projects, including residential properties, complex industrial facilities, warehouses, retail spaces, historic sites, and listed buildings.

When is an Aerial UAV Survey Needed?

Aerial surveys are invaluable in various situations where traditional ground-based methods may be less effective or time-consuming. Common scenarios include:

  • Large Scale Projects: Mapping extensive areas such as construction sites, agricultural land, or infrastructure networks.
  • Hard-to-access Locations: Surveying sites that are difficult, or impossible to access on foot, such as rooftops, or remote terrains.
  • Topographical mapping: Creating accurate 3D models and maps for land development, urban planning, or environmental studies.
  • Progress Monitoring: Tracking the progress of large construction projects with up-to-date visuals and data.
  • Infrastructure Inspection: Inspecting structures like bridges, towers, or pipelines for maintenance or damage assessments.
  • Land Surveying for Planning and Development: Gathering accurate site data for feasibility studies, zoning, and land-use planning.

Benefits of our Aerial UAV Surveys

Time Efficiency

Drone surveys drastically reduce the time required for data collection compared to traditional ground-based methods, accelerating project timelines and enabling faster decisions.

Highly Accurate

Advanced drone technology equipped with high-resolution cameras, LiDAR, and GPS systems ensures precise data collection. This accuracy is crucial for applications like topographical mapping, volumetric calculations, and infrastructure inspections.

Cost Efficiency

By reducing the need for extensive ground crews, drone surveys significantly cut project costs. Drones offer an economical alternative without compromising on quality.

Comprehensive Data Collection

Drones capture a wealth of information, including high-resolution images, videos, and thermal or infrared data, all of which can be analysed for detailed insights. This versatile data supports diverse applications, such as monitoring construction progress, assessing environmental changes, or detecting structural issues.
